Why do you think that people fail to look at the big picture?

I've been thinking about this for a while. Why don't scientists and researchers examine the consequences of the new theories they give to the general public? And then, who doesn't the public look at the big picture instead of just blindly buying into the new theory?

Case in point: The current (as far as I was taught) thought about early childhood education, and education in general is that the child should be given a say in all the rules and regulations by which he lives and be treated like an adult. Parents aren't supposed to say no to their children, but rather, redirect their attention. This has been a stedily growing thought for the last decade or so, and now we've got a whole generation of kids who have little respect for authority, have never heard the word "no" and feel entitled. What's going to happen to these kids when they start to work? Better yet, kids who don't respect authority don't learn as well, and those kids who are failing out are going to be the ones ...
