Block users by ip addy?

i have a site and i only want ppl from southern cali to access it everyone else i want to either redirect to a different page or black them all togeather



i asked this about 30min ago and i got some stuff i did not understand so explain this plz i dont have a clue so plz explain your answer

Basically the short story is, there is no 100% guarantee that the computer is talking to your server is not being decietful about its own location.



You can attempt to write a script using a scripting language that will try to look it up, but there is no guarantee that there will be a record. Ultimately you will trace it back, provide nothing hairy is going on to an ISP (or those silly people that provide access to the web).



Alternatively you can try to buy software to do it.



Otherwise, it isn't easy and it will slow things down considerably - or at least I imagine.

As you can see, it is concievable that the provider isn't in the same state as the person who recieves internet service - you'll probably notice that the address does not in fact retrieve your true location, just some place relatively close by.



Its a nice idea, but it takes a lot of work to do and it is not a simple thing. Start by educating yourself on traceroute, whois and nslookup. Good luck.
