My web search results are getting redirected to advertising sites. How do I stop this?

It sounds like your PC is infected with a browser hijacker. Use these scans to remove it.

Browser Hijacker

Also known as: Hijacker

Software that tends to Hijack your browsers web connections to do their own purposes. They will change your homepage to another homepage no matter how many times you change it or you can do a search in Google, but instead of getting the results back from Google, your search request is actually hijacked and sent to another search engine.

All of these are ones that I personally use and all are free. After you install any of them, make sure you update them to get the full affect.

Spybot - Search %26amp; Destroy detects and removes spyware, a relatively new kind of threat not yet covered by common anti-virus applications. Spyware silently tracks your surfing behaviour to create a marketing profile for you that is transmitted without your knowledge to the compilers and sold to advertising companies. If you see new toolbars in your Internet Explorer that you haven't intentionally installed, if your browser crashes inexplicably, or if your home page has been "hijacked" (or changed without your knowledge), your computer is most probably infected with spyware. Even if you don't see the symptoms, your computer may be infected, because more and more spyware is emerging. Spybot-S%26amp;D is free.

A browser hijacker is a type of application that alters your computer's browser settings so that you are redirected to Web sites that you had no intention of visiting. Most browser hijackers alter default home pages as well as search pages in an attempt to generate revenues based on web site traffic.

If you are using IE 7, then go to tools located to the upper right, then select Internet options.... Once a box appears, click on DELETE next to SETTINGS, then click on the " delete all" button. Close the box, then click on OK on the next box. Close IE 7....

That's it.
(1) If you have not already scanned your comp with spybot do that now .Update it and then run it so it gets rid of all the spyware and trojans in safe mode

(2) Do an online virus scan to check if you still have any other viruses in your computer. And let us know if the online virus scan still finds any virus or spyware .

ASAP stands for the Alliance of Security Analysis Professionals.

ASAP started out as a small band of security sites under siege, but has expanded rapidly to include the "Best of the Best" the Internet Security Community has to offer.

(3) Get you self a good antivirus or a free one if your present anti virus is not protecting you .
?????
Stop searching for things that you don't need, or can't afford, anyway. I did it once, never again.
Your system is infected with Ad-Aware and Spyware.

Download the latest version of Spybot Search and Destroy and Ad-aware Personal Edition from www.download.com.

Install them update the definition files and run a complete scan.

if you dont have an Antivirus installed Download AVG from the same site and install, Update and run a complete scan.

Delete your Internet Temperory files and History and reset your browser settings to Default.

You can do the above by going to Tools %26gt; Internet Options and pressing the button Delete files and Delete Cookies.

And go to Tools and Select Reset Web Settings.

Also if you yahoo any tool bars installed like Yahoo, Google or any other remove them from add remove programs.
